kings, queens and fairies

It's been a busy weekend! We went to Kennywood on Friday. Leave it to us to choose one of the hottest and most humid days of the summer to go to a amusement park. However, we had fun and I think we probably lost about 5 lb. each.
Today we were off to the Pittsburgh Renaissance Festival. The weather was perfect and we had a great time. We saw the King and Queen

I ate a turkey leg

I even got to be a fairy for the day

It was quite a day! I would recommend it to anyone. Also, I saw several small knitted items that I would like to try. All in all, it was fun and inspiring.

yum! peaches!

Ok, not a long post tonight but I wanted to share a culinary secret. I guess it's not really a secret but it's a really good idea. If you like peaches and pie, listen up. Now is the best time to get peaches. You will want to get freestone peaches (meaning the inner "stone" seperates easily from the fruit). Chambersburg peaches are the best. Also pick up a container of Fruit Fresh at your grocery store. It's in the canning section. Next, peel and slice 4 cups of peaches, mix in the appropriate amount of Fruit Fresh, put in container and freeze. If you freeze them now they will last until the fall. My mom does this and then defrosts the peaches and makes a pie with them for Thanksgiving. Since I am hosting this year, I decided to do the same. The peaches are ready for a pie shell once defrosted. Enjoy!
On another note, a friend from a local message board is selling a cookbook to raise money for their adoption. These cookbooks have a great selection of recipes and make great gifts! You will also help them bring their sweet little boy home from Guatemala. Click here to order.

i'm back!

I wasn't able to access my blog for about a week because robots thought I was violating blogger.com rules. It's all crazy computer stuff to me, but now I'm back!

So my newest knitting project is a pair of baby booties. I'm only 1/2 with the first one so far, but I'm hoping they turn out. Here's a work-in-progress pic:

I will take another when I'm finished. Also, I hope you enjoy this pic. I dropped my digital camera on my hardwood floor and scratched both while trying to get everything for the picture. Grrr....

So I will close with a pic of my adorable niece to lift everyone's spirits
